Joanne B. Messick, VMD, PhD, DAVCP is certified by the American College of Veterinary Pathologists (clinical pathology). She received her VMD from the University of Pennsylvania, which was followed by a residency in clinical pathology and doctoral research at The Ohio State University. Over the past 25 or so years, she’s been on faculty at three academic institutions including University of Illinois, Cornell University and finally coming in for a landing at Purdue University. Dr. Messick has been at Purdue for about 17 years and is the instructor of record for both the sophomore hematology and Application/Integration courses in the DVM curriculum. She has been an active member of the American Society for Veterinary Clinical Pathology, serving on many committees, as well as being on the executive board and presiding as the Society’s president in 2010. Dr. Messick’s current focus is the development on online course with the aim of training pathologists in the art/science of bone marrow evaluation – Cytologic and Histologic Bone Marrow Evaluation in Dogs and Cats with Case Illustrations.
