Guided by an ambitious strategic plan that will raise the institution’s reputation and profile nationally and internationally, Purdue stands on the cusp of a new era. The university’s main campus is located in West Lafayette, Indiana, 60 miles north of Indianapolis.
The Director of Advancement, School of Veterinary Medicine position report to the Associate Vice President for Advancement and work closely with the Dean of the School of Veterinary Medicine and other development and academic staff, the Director of Advancement will develop and execute a plan to bring donors to the School and the University through active use of the development process, including solicitation of major gifts. The Director will supervise the School’s development professional and support staff. The Director of Advancement is responsible for securing major gifts aimed at meeting the strategic goals of the unit leadership, their programs, disciplines and the University. A primary focus for the Director of Advancement is to design and implement a comprehensive Advancement program.
Required:
· Bachelor's degree.
· Five years of experience in fund development including solicitation of major gifts and/or related work experience required.
· Knowledge of philanthropy and fundraising principles required.
- Excellent supervisory, relationship building, organizational and time management skills required.
- Ability to represent the University with tact and diplomacy at all times required.
- Sound judgment, initiative, and ability to collaborate effectively required.
- Ability to travel and perform weekend duties required.
Preferred:
- Advanced degree a plus but not required.
- Experience in higher education preferred.
- Familiarity with the programs of the School of Veterinary Medicine and Veterinary programs desired but not required.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills are essential, including the demonstrated ability to communicate well in writing and speaking before large groups.
- Ability to interpret and articulate the mission of Purdue University needed.
- Must be able to interact with stakeholders from a wide range of professional and cultural backgrounds.
- Knowledge of finance, planned giving, alumni relations, corporate relations, and advancement communications are preferred.
- Ability to continuously improve professional competency through participation of professional education opportunities.
- Experience managing/supervising professional staff preferred.
- Good computer skills necessary.
Additional Information:
- Travel and weekend work is required for this position.
- A check of criminal conviction records will be made for employment in this position.
- FLSA: Exempt (Not Eligible for Overtime)
